RPJ Score: 96-100
Wine Description: A dry red blend from Pessac Leognan made by Jean Delmas, this is a classic wine that hits the entire mainstream buttons for investment. It grows well, carries low risk and is beautiful to drink even in a bad year! It is a 1st growth with production up to 15,000 cases but expect 12,000 on average. This is great for investors because the quantity will go fairly quickly.
Wines Year Description: 96 points just like the 1995 and very similar in build. The 1989 was always said by RPJ to throw the 90 into the dark, but this is a real wine lover’s glass. Cassis and dark fruits take a twirl in the early aroma and the strong medium bodied structure adds to a long finish and a delicate ride into the palate. This will only live till 2022 and was ready in 2001, so this is a drinkers buy not an investment buy. If you already have this then you will have experienced good growth and know how rare it is to find a case in high provenance.
